Oh, please, if there is a God and you are listening to me, do not incorporate Facebook into the new DisneyBaby.com venture.
I love babies. And I’m a mom, myself. But interest in children seems to be inversely proportional to whether or not they or their components came out of you, and if I have to start seeing Disney Baby updates in my news feed chronicling my Facebook friends’ wishlists, sonograms, and general baby ephemera, it will cause a slight but present level of annoyance in my level of Facebook usage.
Still, Disney is interested in leveraging the widespread “desire to talk incessantly about one’s offspring” trend to attract social media minded parents and parents-to-be with the site- which will function as a sort of web scrapbook with heavy product tie-ins. And being Disney, the site promises as magical experience for parents of Disney Baby babies. SVP of Disney Interactive Moms and Family Brooke Chaffin said this in a press release:
“We continue to focus on building compelling new digital platforms to serve the needs of parents at every life stage, and are very excited to introduce a new destination that shows expectant and new parents how to add a little Disney magic to their growing family’s life.”
