@WalmartLabs was launched in 2011 as a way for the retail giant to turn the company into a multi-channel player in the mobility sector as it continues to grow through Smartphone, Tablet and other devices.
Along with expanding their abilities to offer third-party solutions the acquisitions Walmart has targeted allows the to bypass vendors while keeping some of their digital marketing development in-house.
You may recall that in the summer Walmart purchased OneRiot, a provider that acquires interest-level data from Twitter, Facebook and other social networks in order to create targeted online ads. Walmart’s @WalmartLabs also recently purchased social media and search provider Kosmix.
