Flavors.me Aims to Join the Social Network Fray

What started as a content aggregator (albeit from mostly social sites) aims to achieve a spot alongside big players like Facebook, as Flavors.me rolls out some enhancements to compete on the social playing field.

Today, a fresh design and a ton of new features will be launching on the site in an attempt to transform Flavors.me from a “placeholder” to a full-fledged social network, the New York Times reports. Flavors.me aggregates content from popular social networks and related sharing sites like Tumblr, Flickr, Foursquare, Blogger, Twitter, SoundCloud and Instagram into a single feed-format, to allow users of multiple services to view all their content in a single place.

Flavors.me founder Jonathan Marcus cited information overload on sites like Facebook as a reason for users to check out Flavors.me for social content aggregation. He explained:

“Facebook is trying to cram so much information into one page. The news feed reads like headlines… People are still going to check Facebook and Twitter, but this is a catch-all place where you see everything that people are checking into.”

Marcus admits the site is similar to the once-popular FriendFeed, but says Flavors.me is more “visually compelling.” Do you think a single catch-all site will help you better curate the social content you view?
