Rumors have been circulating for a while now that Apple is preparing to launch their own connected TV units and now that rumor has added voice and motion control functions to those devices.
Currently known as iTV the new option will also connect with other Apple devices including iPads and iPhones, thus allowing users to download movies and watch them from any of their Apple gadgets.
Expected to launch in the second half of 2012 the system is being built with the help of electronics specialist Sharp.
The push to release the new technology comes on the heels of a Steve Jobs interview for his biography in which he outlines the company’s plans for the new TV.
The move to secure a spot in the burgeoning connected TV market comes at a time when Microsoft’s own Xbox Live Hub has tied up partnerships with more than 40 content providers with a new TV and movie platform currently preparing for launch in the coming weeks.
Microsoft as we previously reported also purchased video-search firm VideoSurf this past week, placing more pressure on Apple to create a platform users will be willing to buy into.
What will Apple’s new platform need to be capable of before you decide to buy into the idea?
