Yahoo is teaming up with some big names in entertainment to create eight new, short-ish web series.
The new spots will begin streaming in October, and Yahoo Video chief Erin McPherson confirms that the company will be producing the shows both “in-house” as well as with some Hollywood players including Electus, Principato-Young, FishBowl Media and Morgan Spurlock’s Warrior Poets.
Aimed at a 25-54 year-old female demographic, the spots will be about 3-8 minutes in length and will focus mainly on lifestyle-related content. Electus CEO Drew Buckley spoke to Variety about the content plans, and said:
“When a lot of people were going online to watch video initially, it was all about giving information… What you’re seeing now online is more programming that’s much more about lifestyle and story.”
Interestingly, the mag points out, Yahoo will also promote the specific time the content will be airing- which is notable because fixed times are not necessarily a selling point for streaming content. Clean House‘s Niecy Nash, Spurlock and Californication‘s Judy Greer. Titles will include OMG! Now, Your Friends Will Never Believe You, and Ultimate Proposal.
