The Boston Globe has followed others, including its parent The New York Times, in putting the majority of its content behind a paywall.
Access to the site is free to all print subscribers, with a digital-only subscription being offered for $3.99 per week.
The new look BostonGlobe.com will be free until October 1 via a sponsorship deal, as part of an effort to allow people to try the new site before having to pay for access.
Like the New York Times, visitors who click through to the site from a search result or other site will still be able to read the article for free, however will see more ads then paid subscribers will see.
The Globe’s popular Boston.com will remain free and will offer a variety of content, however will be limited in its reporting of hard news, which will be offered exclusively on the new BostonGlobe.com site.
