Maxim fans that are also iPad users will have to get their fix of scantily clad women soaked in unknown substances and partially covered in sand from some other place for the time being, as the company is yanking their iPad app- at least for a little while.
AllThingsD broke the story, but it turns out that the men’s glossy actually isn’t giving up the digitized content ghost just yet. The news of Maxim‘s digital demise seems to spring from an update to the mag’s iTunes page that read:
June 2011 will be the final issue of MAXIM HD. Get future issues of MAXIM through the Maxim Magazine application available on iPhone and iPad.
Below the update are a series of angry comments from readers lodging complaints that the app, administrated by Bite Sized Candy, was plagued by issues- most notably the deletion of paid content after the app was updated. (Not the most encouraging glitch to encounter for readers that may be wary of digital switchovers as magazines adapt for tablet consumption.)
However, the buggy interface could be what prompted the message, which Maxim now says is because the glossy is switching over to Mag+. Nora Garrity of Maxim‘s PR department says the content will be the same, even though the app is changing:
“It will be a new app [with] the same qualities as the previous app that our readers have been enjoying.”
No word on when the new and improved Mag+ version of the Maxim app will hit the iTunes store.
