You may have seen GetGlue check-ins on Facebook, but if you haven’t, it’s essentially like the Foursquare of television.
So if you want to get in on all the badge-earning action, but don’t have much of a social life, GetGlue is your location-aware game. (Especially if your location is most frequently “home.”) High-profile hits like True Blood and The Walking Dead have both utilized the service heavily on social networks to promote their first-run episodes, and it appears that the company is on track to grow for the time being even if the check-in craze has leveled off somewhat.
Earlier this week, GetGlue CEO Alex Iskold announced the $15 million cash infusion in a blog post Wednesday, informing readers that two million users belong to GetGlue- and more than 100 million check-ins were clocked in 2011. Iskold said:
“We are very excited about this financing and have big plans for 2012 and beyond. We are working on building a more personalized, media-rich second screen experience for phones, tablets, and GetGlue.com. We are also making a big investment into our platform and looking forward to enabling check-ins from more third-party applications and websites.”
