Viacom and Ustream have entered into a partnership, giving the live streaming site exclusive rights to broadcast Viacom content on the web.
The deal encompasses a few of Viacom’s networks, granting Ustream access to content from MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, Spike and CMT, and the site will broadcast events in real time. The partnership will be getting off the ground Sunday, with an inaugural broadcast of the red carpet at VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul from 5-7PM EST. Viacom’s Digital EVP Dermot McCormack commented in a press release:
“We are steadfast in our mission to provide our audience a front row seat and exclusive access to pop culture’s biggest events. The VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul Red Carpet is the perfect occasion to officially launch our syndication partnership with Ustream, which we are confident will only expand the reach of our digital specific live streams to an even larger audience base.”
UStream’s content VP Jason Kirk commented on the deal in the same press release, saying:
“We are thrilled to partner with Viacom to distribute high quality live video content spanning music, entertainment, comedy, gaming and news. As the leader in live streaming video with an audience of 50 million unique monthly viewers, Ustream is excited to work with the leader in world-class and global entertainment. We pride ourselves on delivering added distribution solutions of premium live events so fans around the world can tune in and interact with one another in real-time.”
The red carpet broadcast will be hosted by VH1 personality La La Vasquez.
