AOL Travel and Orbitz have announced a new multi-year agreement that will make Orbitz.com the web destinations primary travel booking agent.
As part of the deal Orbitz will provide AOL travel readers with discounts on hotels, vacation packages, flights, rental cars, cruises and other items through Orbitz.com. In exchange Orbitz.com and their other popular sites CheapTickets.com and Away.com will feature exclusive content from AOL Travel including travel guides. Through their partnership Orbitz will be able to obtain information from AOL Travel, HuffPOst Travel and Gadling travel-themed content.
Speaking about the deal Orbitz.com President Chris Orton noted:
“Orbitz Worldwide is excited to partner with AOL Travel and provide AOL Travel visitors with access to the broad range of travel products and services available on Orbitz.com, including the protection of our groundbreaking Price Assurance program. We expect this partnership to grow the Orbitz.com customer base as we provide AOL users access to great travel deals and a wide variety of destinations and supplier choices.”
Orton goes on to add:
“The addition of AOL’s compelling content will also add significant scope and more engaging destination content for customers across the Orbitz Worldwide family of brands.”
By signing a multi-year deal Orbitz has usurped a Travelocity partnership that AOL has held for more than a decade. It should however be noted that Travelocitycom isn’t cut out of the AOL Travel destination, Orbitz will simply be prominently featured throughout many of AOL Travel’s pages.
Do you think AOL Travel and Orbtiz make for a good online partnership for destination travel?
