Online publisher Populis on Thursday announced that they have acquired Berlin-based Mokono, giving the company control of Germany’s largest blog network and a very capable social media advertising platform.
Populis paid 8.2 million euros for the company and through their acquisition they add 14 million unique monthly visitors to their portfolio along with 700,000 registered blogs thanks it large part to Blog.co.uk and Blog.de.
Mokono began in 2005 and had raised funds through Burda Digital Ventures which acquired a minority stake in 2007.
Through Mokono’s social advertising platform Populis receives access to social ads, video-seeding, product review placement and other cutting edge forms of social advertising.
Populis has been on an acquisition run in 2011, acquiring European and South American blog network Blogo for €6 million earlier in the year.
Populis owns Excite Europe, Better Deals, Nanopublishing, Blogosfere and Blogo, all of which helped the organization earn $83 million in revenues in 2010.
